When regional markets don't match the national narrative

In episode 15 of The Distribution by Juniper Square, Brandon Sedloff sat down with Sean Burton, CEO of Cityview. Founded in 2003, Cityview is a vertically integrated real estate investment management and development firm. Specializing in developing, acquiring, and operating opportunistic and value-add multifamily projects, Cityview creates sustainable housing options for Western markets. As CEO, Sean oversees the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the company.

During their conversation, the two discussed:

  • How developers, elected officials, and local organizations need to come together to build new projects

  • How high demand drives rent growth but can also cause affordability issues

  • Why Cityview is focused on building its “golden pipeline of shovel-ready deals” in supply-constrained markets

It's very difficult to build in those markets. That leads, obviously, to significant rent growth. And it frankly, unfortunately, leads to housing unaffordability. – Sean Burton
